Update -
Amazon Web Services has now fully restored its systems, and Top Hat’s services have largely stabilized as a result. Most functionality across both Top Hat and Aktiv is operating normally.
We’re continuing to monitor closely while our systems process any remaining backlog and work toward full performance restoration. At this time, users may notice minor delays in background processes such as exports or syncs, but the overall platform experience should be stable

Update -
Amazon Web Services has indicated as of 6:53pm ET that service has been restored. We're still closely monitoring as our systems work through any backlogged messages in lieu of Amazon service restoration. Our next update will be tomorrow morning, once our teams are confident that Top Hat and Aktiv systems are fully operational.

Update -
We are seeing some of our services slowly begin to recover. It will take some time for any backlogged messages to be processed and for everything to be considered fully operational. At this time we are still monitoring Amazon's updates (https://health.aws.amazon.com/health/status) alongside our systems reporting, and continue to strongly recommend avoiding the use of any critical functions, such as tests, exams, or gradebook activities until the issue is fully resolved.

Update -
We continue to monitor Amazon Web Services (https://health.aws.amazon.com/health/status) and their steps towards resolution.
With degraded performance, we continue to strongly recommend avoiding the use of any critical functions, such as tests, exams, or gradebook activities until the issue is fully resolved. If you have assessments scheduled during this time, we suggest rescheduling or postponing them to ensure no data loss or grading inconsistencies occur.

Our Aktiv application is also impacted by the Amazon outage, which include, but are not limited to, LMS grade sync and adaptive assignments. Overall, there may be performance degradation or delays in loading the application, and we will continue monitoring as Amazon restores services.

Monitoring -
At 3:11am ET, Amazon Web Services indicated they were "investigating increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS services in the US-EAST-1 Region." During this time, users may have had difficulty with logging into the Top Hat platform, saving answers to assignments or even viewing course material.
As of 8:48am ET, Amazon is "making progress on resolving the issue with new EC2 instance launches in the US-EAST-1 Region and are now able to successfully launch new instances in some Availability Zones." Users may have inconsistent access to various Top Hat features, including, but not limited to, saving questions, presenting questions and uploading slides. At this time, gradebooks will not appear updated, but we can confirm that answer submissions are being captured.
We are monitoring Amazon closely, and will provide further updates as services are restored.
